ABOUT YOUR GUIDES...
Dan Hamill started fishing as a young boy in the lakes and rivers of British Columbia. He didn't start fishing saltwater until he was ten years of age but once he discovered the sea he never looked back. Although Dan is a self-taught fisherman, there is also a generation of experience passed down to him by his father. His skill and techniques are honed to today's fishing. His old school style, combined with the state of the art equipment lead to his success. Dan also produces Lucky Jig fishing lures. His products get great reviews and is carried by several retail outlets on Vancouver Island.
Dan loves the water and enjoys getting out any chance he gets. He believes the old proverb "God will not deduct from a man's life, the time spent fishing". He works hard and will try many different methods to ensure action. His sense of humor helps to keep all those on board feeling relaxed and comfortable.
Even though Dan has many years of on the water experience, he has taken the time to formally educate himself. He has his PCOC license (pleasure craft operator's card) and Marine Emergency Duties A1. He is also an avid reader on regulations, fish species, and other topics to improve his knowledge of the waters. Dan is Coast Guard, Industry Canada and Transport Canada certified.
Marion Marlor has spent years on the water through either fishing, sailing, or racing. Most of her fishing experience is through fishing with Salmon Safaris since 2004.
Marion is from Alberta but got out on the ocean as soon as possible when she moved to British Columbia. Through racing Marion is very familiar with local waters as they have been crossed many times in all kinds of conditions. Marion has also circumnavigated Vancouver Island five times.
Marion is well schooled in marine safety. Courses taken include Marine Emergency Duties A2, Maritime Commercial Radio License, Advanced Marine First Aid, as well as many courses about weather, navigation, tides, currents, and marine safety. Marion is Coast Guard, Industry Canada and Transport Canada certified. She also speaks English, German and a little Spanish.
Tourism and the aspect of customer service are important to Marion. She has recently completed the Adventure Tourism Level II Certificate from the Sooke Adventure Tourism School. This is an intense course that deals with everything from safety to environmental stewardship, weather, climate, heritage interpretation, leadership, communication as well as running an adventure tourism business.
Marion's passion is the water and she gets out fishing whenever she can both as a guide for Salmon Safaris and for her own personal enjoyment. Marion looks forward to each day fishing as there is always something new and exciting that happens when on the water.
